A Japanese lacquered okamochi carrying or delivery box, constructed in wood and decorated with a prominent kamon and openwork detailing.

The piece has an attractive contrast between the lacquered surfaces and visible wood grain, with the pierced work adding considerable decorative interest. The crest is described here simply as a kamon; without documented provenance it should not be taken as evidence of ownership by a particular family.

A distinctive example of traditional Japanese utilitarian lacquerwork suitable for display as well as for a collection of Japanese domestic and decorative arts.
