Yamazakura is a UK-based gallery of Japanese art and antiques, shaped by a longstanding interest in Japanese craftsmanship and history.

Our interest began with a wakizashi that we still own and treasure. That connection with an individual object remains at the heart of the collection: pieces chosen for their workmanship, character and the pleasure of living with them.

Our collecting interests include Japanese bronze and copper sculpture, lacquer and maki-e, Hakata ningyō, ceramics, and samurai arms and armour. Polearms and their decorated saya are a particular strength.

As the collection develops, further works will be photographed, researched and added individually. Each listing records the information available for that object, with uncertain dates or attributions identified as such.

Alongside the specialist gallery, Affordable Japan offers accessible objects and selected pieces from our earlier collection, while our books support the study and enjoyment of Japanese art.

Please contact us to discuss an object or your collecting interests.
