A Japanese kiseru (煙管) smoking pipe, traditionally used with finely cut kizami tobacco.

This example has a slender central stem with metal mouthpiece and bowl fittings. The decoration depicts a koi carp beneath pine, giving the pipe considerably more visual interest than a plain utilitarian example.

Kiseru formed part of the traditional Japanese smoking ensemble and were commonly used alongside a tabako-bon containing the associated smoking implements. Decorated examples also served as personal objects in which metalwork and surface ornament could be displayed.
