Object: Japanese Imperial-period military parade flag retained in its tubular metal carrier.

Construction: Nickel-plated tubular carrier with suspension fittings and tassel, together with the associated flag.

This is an unusual surviving military display ensemble whose interest lies in the combination of flag, carrier, hangers and tassel. The earlier Yamazakura catalogue described the piece as very rare; no claim is made here that it is unique or that its precise unit or individual ownership has been established.
