This is a splendid Yari ( Japanese spear ) The length of the kerakubi (shoulders) indicates a muromachi period piece. ( Muromachi period, also called Ashikaga Period, in Japanese history, period of the Ashikaga Shogunate (1338–1573). It was named after a district in Kyōto where the first Ashikaga shogun established his administration.)
what is really nice about this is the Nagaye ( pole) this is beautifully carved with flowers and butterflies on one side and with cursive script on the other , saying with training you and your weapon become one . Very much a Samurai way of thought . a nice old item .
