Japanese Traditionally Forged Sword in Shirasaya – Ubu Blade

£1,200.00

Object: Japanese traditionally forged sword blade housed in shirasaya.

Blade: The earlier Yamazakura catalogue records the blade as ubu (unaltered tang) and notes that it would benefit from professional polishing. No smith attribution or period is asserted here without further examination of the blade and tang.

Mounting: Plain shirasaya bearing patriotic kanji, as recorded in the earlier catalogue.

This is a blade-led collector's piece whose further study would benefit from clear photographs of the nakago, any inscriptions, blade measurements and the temper line before a more specific attribution is attempted.

Condition: Please study the photographs carefully; they form an integral part of the description. Any polishing should be undertaken only by an appropriately trained Japanese sword polisher.
