Subject: The composition represents the famous episode from the Heike Monogatari in which Nasu no Yoichi, fighting for the Minamoto during the Genpei War, shoots a fan target displayed from a Taira vessel at Yashima. The identification is based on the established Yamazakura catalogue description and the iconography of the scene.

Construction: Deeply carved from a single substantial slab of wood, with considerable relief and modelling across the composition.

Dimensions: Approximately 600 × 840 mm, as recorded in the earlier Yamazakura catalogue.

Presentation: The piece incorporates lighting operated by remote control.
