Japanese lacquered wooden tabako-bon (smoking tray), decorated in maki-e.

The rectangular stand is constructed with pierced openwork and decorated with landscape motifs and mon in gold-toned lacquer. It belongs to the traditional group of portable smoking implements used to hold the equipment associated with a kiseru pipe.

The mon are described here as decorative crests; no particular family provenance is claimed from their presence alone. The earlier catalogue did not record a maker or secure date, and none is added here.
