The spear was acquired in Japan in its present mounted configuration. The earlier Yamazakura catalogue described it as Edo period; that dating is retained as the previous catalogue attribution rather than presented here as independently verified.

A compact example of the classic straight Japanese spear form, with the survival of its associated mountings adding considerably to its interest as a complete display object.
