Object: Pair of Japanese Bishamon-gote (armoured sleeves)

Type: Kote incorporating shoulder protection in the Bishamon-gote tradition.

Presentation: The pair is currently mounted for display in a black frame.

Catalogue note: Kote formed an essential component of Japanese armour, protecting the arms while allowing movement. Bishamon-gote are distinguished by the incorporation of additional protection around the upper arm and shoulder. This surviving pair is presented as armour in its own right rather than simply as decorative wall material.

Research status: Period, construction, textile components, ironwork, lacing, any signatures or armourer's marks, dimensions and condition are to be recorded during physical recataloguing. The present description therefore avoids assigning a date or school until the object can be examined directly.
