Japanese Su-yari in Decorated Koshirae – Approx. 1.8 m

£750.00

Japanese su-yari (straight spear) retained in decorated koshirae, with an overall length recorded in the earlier Yamazakura catalogue as approximately 1.8 metres.

The mounting is decorated with a winding plant design in gold-coloured lacquer and shell-inlay or mother-of-pearl effect. The earlier catalogue described the shell decoration as mother of pearl; this identification is retained cautiously without material testing.

Condition: the blade was previously described as tired, while the decorative mounting was noted as being in good condition. Please refer to the photographs for the present surface and condition of both blade and koshirae.

No smith, school or period attribution is asserted without further evidence.
