Gunbai-form Yari Saya with Bear-Fur Covering

£650.00

Object: Japanese yari saya (spear cover) of distinctive gunbai-like form, covered in bear fur.

Date: Previously catalogued by Yamazakura as Edo period; this attribution is retained pending closer examination.

Yari saya were protective covers for spearheads, but surviving examples can also be highly sculptural objects in their own right. The broad gunbai-shaped profile and fur covering give this example exceptional visual presence and make it particularly relevant to a specialist collection of Japanese polearms and their fittings.

Condition: The earlier catalogue notes unusually good condition. Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
