Object: Japanese yari saya (spear cover), decorated with kanji and mother-of-pearl inlay.

Date: Previously catalogued by Yamazakura as Edo period; this dating is retained as the earlier catalogue attribution rather than presented as independently verified.

Yari saya protected the spearhead when not in use and could also be visually distinctive objects in their own right. The combination of inscription and mother-of-pearl decoration gives this example particular display interest.
