Object: Japanese hibachi (火鉢), a traditional charcoal brazier, described in the earlier Yamazakura catalogue as Edo period.

Hibachi were an established feature of the Japanese interior, providing contained charcoal heat in a purpose-made vessel. Surviving examples are collected both as objects of Japanese domestic culture and for their decorative craftsmanship.

This example has particularly attractive detailing and works well as an individual Japanese decorative-art object as well as within a traditional interior display.
