Object: Japanese shin-gunto with a particularly interesting earlier Yamazakura catalogue history relating to its capture in Luzon during the closing stages of the Pacific War.

Recorded history: The previous catalogue states that the sword was captured in the Caraballo Mountains, Luzon, approximately three weeks after it was made. That account further suggested that the circumstances of its arrival in the area might have been connected with communications to General Yamashita's headquarters.

The capture location and timing are retained here as recorded earlier catalogue provenance. The proposed courier explanation is an interesting possibility only and should not be presented as established history without supporting documentary evidence.

This distinction is important: the sword itself and any surviving accompanying documentation should be assessed together before the wartime narrative is treated as proven provenance.
