Object: Japanese wakizashi-length traditionally forged blade mounted in kyu-gunto military koshirae.

The earlier Yamazakura catalogue attributed the blade to the early Edo period and described the mounts as dating from circa 1886. Those datings are retained here as previous catalogue attributions pending further examination.

The blade has a single bo-hi on one side and double grooves on the other. Two small nicks to the cutting edge were noted in the earlier record.

Condition: Antique used condition. Any polishing or restoration should be undertaken only by an appropriately experienced Japanese-sword specialist. Please study the photographs carefully; they form an integral part of the description.
